Q: Who can I nominate?
All K-12 public school district employees who have been employed by the district for five years or more are eligible for the Sterling Shining Star Award. Shining Stars are teachers, principals, administrators, nurses, support staff, cooks, librarians, bus drivers, parent liaisons, coaches, superintendents and counselors, just to name a few! They are the people in our schools who are making a positive difference for students.
Q: When will winners be selected? When will they be notified?
After nominations close, the Selection Committee will begin reviewing all of the nominees. We will be conducting our surprise ceremonies in April and they will run through mid-May. All winners will have been announced by the end of May. If you want to be the first to know, follow us on Facebook and Twitter!
Q: How can I support my Nominee?
There are many ways you can help us honor and recognize a nominee. One easy way to support your nominee is to visit the nominee profile and leave a positive comment to tell your nominee how he/she changed your life.
Q: Will comments posted on the Nominee’s profile increase their chances of winning?
Comments will also be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee as examples of the nominee’s:
- Proven ability to make a beneficial difference in the lives of students
- Ability to positively add to the development of the school’s atmosphere
- Leadership in his or her activities at the school and/or district level
- Proven record of excellent performance at the professional level
- Commitment to producing a nurturing atmosphere
- Adherence to high moral and ethical standards
Q: What is the difference between nominating someone and commenting on their profile?
Nominating a school employee in your community is a great way to express gratitude for work excellence. All nominees are eligible to win. Comments will be taken into consideration by the Selection Committee.
